Ounagi (Giant eels) habitat
The area around Seriwari-iwa is designated as a national natural monument as a habitat for giant eels.
The giant eel is a tropical freshwater fish that is widely distributed in China, the Philippines, New Guinea, the Indian Ocean, and southeastern Africa, with Japan being the northern limit of its habitat. Giant eels are rare in Japan, and they have been found only in a few places, such as Nagasaki and Wakayama, in addition to our town, Kaiyo-Town.
